The American-Scottish Foundation® brought together senior energy decision-makers and thought leaders at the SUNY Global Center on Monday, October 31, for the first ASF Energy Forum.

The day began with remarks from David Bragdon, Director of Mayor Bloomberg's sustainability agenda for New York City, which laid the framework for an extensive day of panel discussions culminating in a Town Hall style debate with audience and all panelists involved.

Panelists on the role of environmental advocacy included leading industrialists Lord Smith of Kelvin, Chairman, Scottish and Southern Energy and The Weir Group; Alexander 'Pete' Grannis, First Deputy Comptroller, New York State and former New York State DEC Commissioner, and Carl Arnold of the Sierra Club, New York.

Scottish Government Director of Energy David Wilson, together with Andy McDonald, Senior Director, Scottish Enterprise and Richard Bellingham, University of Strathclyde, expanded upon Scotland's role as a renewable energy leader of Europe.

Khalil Shalabi, New York Power Authority (NYPA) spoke to the delivering of cleaner power across the State with Ernest Tollerson of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) focusing on the greening of transportation in New York City.

Baker Botts leading attorneys Bill Bumpers and Dan Steinway, together with Olivia Fussell, Chairman of Carbon Credit Capital, gave insight into the ongoing challenges and spoke of alternative financing mechanisms.

The forum was moderated by Alan Capper, President, Foreign Press Association, together with Ed Crooks, US Energy and Industry Editor, Financial Times, and Ann Kayman, CEO of New York Grant Company. Plans are underway for the second annual ASF Energy Forum in October 2012.
