This coming Sunday, November 29 at 10:15am join in for the Kirkin’ o’ th’ Tartans or the Kirking of the Tartan, at the Second Presbyterian Church, 6 West 95th Street at Central Park West.
Come dressed in Kilt in Sporran to celebrate family ties and honor the long-standing connection between the Second Presbyterian Church, The “Scotch” Church, and the American -Scottish community.
For those of you who don’t know, a Kirk is the Scottish word for Church. Tartan, of course, is the traditional garb of a Highland Scot. The Kirkin’ O’ The Tartan is thus a traditional blessing of the tartan by the Clergy. For more information on this great tradition and how it all began, you can read the history of the Kirkin’ o’ th’ Tartans here.
Followng the Kirking will be an informal coffee hour in the Church’s Carnegie Library, a great way to spend a Sunday morning!
