Aye Write, Glasgow’s Book Festival is a wonderful celebration of literature and ideas featuring over 100 authors and runs this year May 14th – 23rd. Presented by Glasgow Life the program is full of Scottish and international literary talents with a program full of great readings, panels, workshops and discussions. Founded in 2005, Aye Write celebrates the best in national, international and and local writing. This year this year Aye Write is taking place as a fully online event and we’re very pleased to let you know more about the festival!

With over 100 authors appearing as part of Aye Write this year of course it’s hard to single out particular highlights but here are a few from this wonderful program billed as a festival of ideas.

Travel Shouldn’t Cost the Earth: A discussion with award winning writers Emma Gregg & Nina Karnikowski chaired by Gabriella Bennett as they focus on  how to explore our beautiful world sustainably and responsibly on Friday May 14th.

Doom: The Politics of Catastrophe
Niall Ferguson chaired by Alan Riach
Chaired by Magnus Linklater
 
Niall Ferguson isone of Britain’s most renowned historians and the bestselling author of The Pity of War, Empire, The War of the World and The Ascent of Money. His latest book, Doom: The Politics of Catastrophe offers not just a history but a general theory of disaster.

Andrew Marr chaired by Ruth Wishart
 
 
Andrew Marr was born in Glasgow. He studied English at the University of Cambridge and has since enjoyed a long career in political journalism, working for the Scotsman, the Independent, the Daily Express and the Observer. From 2000 to 2005 he was the BBC’s Political Editor. He has written and presented TV documentaries on history, science and politics, and presents the weekly Andrew Marr Show on Sunday mornings on BBC1 and Start the Week on Radio 4. He will be sharing the list of his favourite books with Ruth Wishart.

Douglas Stuart chaired by Janey Godley
 
Man Booker Prize winner Douglas Stuart will join comedian and writer Janey Godley to discuss his best selling book Shuggie Bain on Friday May 21st. Douglas Stuart’s Shuggie Bain became only the the second Scottish novel to win the coveted Man Booker Prize in 2020 and is a gripping depiction of life in Glasgow in 1981.

Four Centuries of Murder with Robbie Morrison, Craig Russell & SG MacLean chaired by ES Thomson
 
Authors Robbie Morrison, Craig Rusell and SG MacLean discuss their latest novels. Hyde is the latest thriller from prize-winning author Craig Russell. Edge of the Grave is the first novel from Robbie Morrison. The House of Lamentations is the nailbiting final historical thriller in SG MacLean’s award-winning Seeker series.
