ASF Spotlight – KIDSOR Scotland’s leading Global Health Charity – the year ahead.
KidsOR is Scotland’s leading Global Health charity and they are now installing their 50th pediatric Operating Room this year. Officially began in January 2018, Kids Operating Room started their first project in Uganda, and now they work toward building operating rooms specifically for pediatric surgery is places that lack the resources.
Recently, Scotland’s government has entrusted KidsOR to deliver over 25 million items of PPE to nine nations in Africa. KidsOR co-founder and chairmen Garreth Wood highlights this effort here.
10 out of 11 children live in a country lacking the resources they need. $65 can provide a child a life saving operation. $250 dollars will give a child a heart monitor after an operation. $300 will provide surgeons enough life-saving PPE equipment for 150 operations $1,100 can prevent unsafe changes to a child’s body temperature with a patient warming system.
The transformations of the operating rooms are outstanding, and in 2022, KidsOR has big plans ahead of them. They intend to install 26 new Operating Rooms in Africa, begin training 20 new pediatric surgeons, and implement expansion plans into South America, beginning in Bolivia.
The American Scottish Foundation has recently highlighted the amazing efforts of this organization in a recent #ScotsinUS spotlight, speaking to Dr. Maija Cheung – Global Head of Surgery for KIDSOR and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Yale University.
