Did you know that there are currently 0 paediatric surgeons serving South Sudan’s 11,000,000 strong population?

The country has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world (58.6 per 1000 live births) and an alarmingly high under-5 mortality rate (89.8 / 1000).

KIDSOR are supporting two scholars, Dr. Betty Arkangalo Yuggu Phillimona and Dr Bidali James Sebit Nzira. Upon completion of their training they are set to become the country’s first ever paediatric surgeons. KidsOR have already created capacity for over 57,000 children to access safe surgery across the world so far.

To learn more of the work of KIDSOR we share a special conversation with Dr Maija Cheung Global Head of Surgery for KIDSOR and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Yale University. It is a wonderful inspiring conversation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y52RiLOk6EY
