DUNFERMLINE CARNEGIE TRUST SHARE AN UPDATE ON THE REGENERATION OF Pittencrieff Park and House
Dear American Friends
With winter arriving in Scotland and the days getting shorter, the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust are eager to share an update on our cherished Pittencrieff Park and House Project.
As you may know, Dunfermline is the ancient Royal Capital of Scotland and the beautiful 80-acre Pittencrieff Park sits within the historic Heritage Quarter of the City.
The park is steeped in Scottish history making it a unique and special place. From the deeds of legendary figures such as King Robert the Bruce, Saint Margaret and William Wallace to the tranquil surroundings that inspired one of the world’s all-time greatest philanthropists, Andrew Carnegie.
Andrew Carnegie was born in Dunfermline and spent his formative years here before emigrating with his parents to the USA in search of a better life. As a young boy, Carnegie gazed through the gates of the private Pittencrieff Estate and thought it was paradise. Imagine his delight when, after he made a fortune in American steel, he returned to Scotland and bought Pittencrieff Estate in 1903, turning it into a park for everyone to enjoy.
Over 100 years on, we are in the midst of an inspiring regeneration project that aims to breathe new life into the park, including reopening the stunning 16th century Pittencrieff House which is set against the backdrop of the park’s natural and tranquil beauty. The plans and designs prepared are nothing short of ambitious. Our aim is to create a vibrant 21st century visitor experience that will serve not only as an exhibition space and event venue but also as a hub for community engagement and education.
The Pittencrieff Park and House project represents a unique opportunity to be part of the remarkable legacy of this glorious park, Carnegie’s most ‘soul satisfying gift’. We envision a place where respect for Scottish history meets the vibrancy of modern use, enticing visitors from near and far, including our American friends.
Together we will preserve the charms of the past while weaving new stories for future generations to enjoy. By becoming a member of our Pittencrieff Lairds Club, there are opportunities to be part of the legacy and write the next chapter of this special park. We are seeking to raise $10m
Through our Directed Giving program with the American Scottish Foundation, a 501C3, your donation is tax deductible.
