Themes: Scotland's "Year of Stories"; 200th Anniversary of King George IV's visit to Edinburgh, which kicked off the "highland revival". 250th anniversary of the birth of Sir Walter Scott, who orchestrated the King's 1822 visit.
Event to be held remotely, via Zoom.
Brief Tartan Day greetings from Scottish heritage groups across the USA. Film clip of BBC TV interview by Fiona Armstrong with the Duke of Buccleuch, Chief of Clan Scott, at his ancestral home of Bowhill, about the enduring legacy of Sir Walter Scott.
Symposium Keynote speaker: Noted Sir Walter Scott scholar, Prof. Caroline McCracken-Fleisher, University of Wyoming.
Other speakers: Giles Ingram, Abbotsford, and Phil Long, National Trust for Scotland, USA.
Panel discussion: Officers of the Clan Scott Society and the Clan Gregor Society, will discuss the importance of the King's 1822 visit and the close, cordial relations that came out of it between Sir Walter Scott, who orchestrated it, and the then MacGregor Chief--bonds which have continued to this day between their respective clan societies.
