The ARCHIE Foundation is a charity supporting sick children in the North of Scotland. With Children's healthcare being delivered in the Aberdeen Children's Hospital, Children's Wards in Inverness and Elgin and numerous community hospitals throughout the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, the ARCHIE Foundation 'Makes the Difference' for these children by providing state of the art equipment, highly specialist staff posts, cutting edge research and, of course, lots and lots of toys!

The ARCHIE Foundation is one of the American Scottish Foundation's partner charities and over the coming months and years we will be focusing on their projects to improve the healthcare of sick children in many of the most remote communities in Scotland.

ARCHIE Update: November 7, 2011:

The American-Scottish Foundation® welcomed 48 ARCHIE runners from Scotland to take part in the New York Marathon on November 6. We had a wonderful few days.

The ASF joined members of the ARCHIE Foundation NY Marathon team when they visited the British Consulate New York on November 7. The team met with HM Consul General Danny Lopez who had also completed the Marathon the day before. He joined with members of the British Consular staff in congratulating the ARCHIE runners in raising over $320,000 (£206,000) through taking part in the Marathon, which will help children's hospitals in the North and West of Scotland: a fantastic achievement.

The ASF and ARCHIE members represented Scotland in the Parade of Nations, part of the NY Marathon Opening Ceremonies.

On the evening before the Marathon itself, the runners gathered at St. Andrews Restaurant in the City for dinner. The evening was arranged by the American-Scottish Foundation® and sponsored by BP.

You can help us raise additional funds for ARCHIE and show our American-Scottish support for all they are doing.

ARCHIE Press Release: September 21, 2011:

The ARCHIE Foundation, the official charity of Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, has been undertaking a programme of expansion over the last few years. In fact, the charity now supports children’s health services in fourteen different hospitals in an area roughly covering the top half of Scotland.

But even by their standards, the latest development to be undertaken is adventurous. The charity has today announced a new partnership with the American Scottish Foundation®, based in Scotland House®, Madison Avenue, New York.

David Cunningham, Director of Fundraising at the ARCHIE Foundation, explains.

“The North and North East of Scotland has many ties with the USA, both historical and current. These have perhaps been highlighted in more recent times with the Oil and Gas sector and, of course, Donald Trump’s new golf resort near Aberdeen. So looking at how we could keep ex-pat Scots informed of our work, in a way that encourages them to support us, seemed like a natural next step in our development.”

“In addition to this, with over 45 runners heading to the US to compete in the New York marathon this November, now seemed the right time to try and formalise this activity. In the American Scottish Foundation® we have found a partner who have been outstanding in their support of our plans, exceptionally professional and whose local knowledge has really made the difference between this happening or not.”

The partnership will allow the charity to showcase its many projects, such as the redevelopment of the Children’s Ward in Inverness, the funding of specialist equipment in Aberdeen or the redevelopment of clinical environments in Orkney, to an audience spread across the whole of America.

Camilla G. Hellman, Director of Development at the ASF added, "Highlighting their important work with Scottish children to our membership will allow people to find out what’s happening across the North of Scotland and, we hope, support projects in towns and communities in a large part of Scotland. We are delighted to be involved with the charity and look forward to welcoming their runners, the largest ever single group to come from Scotland to compete in the New York marathon, this November.
