Lift off! for American Scottish Foundation Fundraising Campaign!

We at Aero Space Scientific Educational Trust are a Scottish charitable organisation and non-profit community benefit society aiming to create a uniquely themed aviation and space flight science centre which will be a year round visitor attraction with fixed dome planetarium in the heart of Scotland; to be known as Aero Space Kinross.

The potential of the ASK mission is huge. We are within easy reach half of Scotland's population in whom we want to ignite a passion, especially amongst the young, for flight related learning and space exploration. Our play-based learning visitor attraction will boost their life chances and also stimulate the local tourism economy.

ASK will raise awareness of the growing Scottish space industry and highlight the many opportunities this offers youngsters for future careers through the development of STEM skills.

More information about Kinross and what to see and do in the area, can be found at www.visitlochleven.org.

THE JOURNEY SO FAR

Over the last 12 months we have partnered with our local Kinross High School in an innovative ‘Build a Plane’ project. Assembly of the kit has been completed and the plane was displayed at a number of events and air-shows over the summer. We will soon be ready to give youngsters free air experience flights.

We expanded our outreach through the acquisition of Cosmos Planetarium which typically engages around 10,000 people each year in its mobile dome; mainly through primary and secondary STEM education outreach, events and festivals.

Over the next year, we will continue to develop and grow our outreach programme and work towards our capital project - a permanent venue which we expect to attract over 100,000 visitors pa. We are approved as an emerging site by the US based Challenger Centre team whose centres deliver very realistic and highly educational space mission simulations for children. Our capital project plan includes creation of what would be the only Challenger Centre in Scotland.

Become part of the Journey

Now it's time to inject the financial fuel required to launch the next stage of our mission and this is how you can get onboard with us….

AS A RESULT OF THE PHASE 1 APPEAL
Build-A-Plane Aviation Project with Kinross High School

As a result of Phase 1 fundraising success, ASSET and Kinross High School, took delivery of a Eurofox kit plane last November (partially supported by local Perth & Kinross LEADER funding). The Build-A-Plane project aims to give local Kinross High School pupils an opportunity to help assemble a real aeroplane from a full-size kit and to encourage their interest in pursuing STEM subjects and make a clear link with the Aero Space Kinross project and STEM education from the outset. It is hoped that further Scottish schools will benefit from a similar Build-A-Plane project in due course.

STEM Outreach
As we work towards our major capital appeal to bring a five-star learning and visitor attraction to Scotland, we are delivering our charitable objectives through outreach work. Our educational work is targeted at young people and families, to stimulate, inspire and encourage through engaging presentations in our mobile planetarium as well as fun science experiments and workshops. Over the last year 10,000 people engaged with our mobile Cosmos Planetarium at various events.

Phase 1 Success
We are pleased to report that over the last 12 months we have now completed Phase 1 of our project, which has allowed us to expand our outreach work through the acquisition of Cosmos Planetarium and partner with our local Kinross high school, in an innovative ‘Build a Plane’ project.

Cosmos Planetarium Has Come on Board!

Recognising the great business fit between the two organisations in relation to the ASK business model; Cosmos Planetarium presents an ideal solution to supporting the planetarium element of the project, as well as continuing to build continued and strong public engagement and awareness through their astronomy outreach programme.

The duo behind Cosmos Planetarium, Steven Gray and James Green have been running cosmic outreach programmes across Scotland and the north of England for several years, bringing their expert astronomy skills to primary and secondary schools as well as numerous events and festivals around the UK. The Planetarium Is a state of the art, fully digital 360°degree immersive cinematic theatre experience. The 6-metre mobile planetarium can accommodate up to 40 children or 25 adults, giving them a wonderful view of the night sky and space, as well as the ability to zoom in on a planet to see surface detail or orbit its moons, see nebula, and star clusters or travel to galaxies millions of light years away.

Phase 2: How can you help?
We've been working up our vision into a fully articulated plan for the past 3 years. We've had lots of great support along the way from around 50 volunteers, partners who share our vision and seed funders. Now it's time to take the project on to the next level.

Our action plan covers the next two years during which time we will put in place a team to deliver our big capital project...the creation of a permanent year-round, all weather venue.
You could say we've...

  • Set the challenge
  • Described the goal
  • Done the maths
  • Engaged with partners to design the vehicle
  • Engineered the launch vehicle
  • Got the vehicle to the launch pad
  • Prepared for launch and set the course

Now it's time to add the financial fuel required to reach the next stage of the mission.

An opportunity not to be missed!
